About the Cocker-poo a Poodle cross-breed.




The Cocker-poo is a lovable breed with a fun loving personality and plenty of energy. COCKERPOO - Poodle Cocker spaniel mix.

A loveable loyal breed, it can be breed with different size poodles and colours its appearance and size can vary greatly, as can its character traits. Generally, Cockerpoo's are extremely friendly, easily trained, energetic dogs whose curly coats, are low shedding and are good for allergy sufferers.

Cockerpoo coats can vary, they range from straight to curly and come in a variety of colours, including, white, chocolate, cream, tan, apricot, or black.

Regular Brushing is needed to avoid matting. Matting can be very painful for a dog it pulls on their skin. Cockerpoo's benefit from regular grooming and need trimming around their eyes to increase their range of sight.

Floppy ears can mean their ear canals can easily become moist, and they are prone to ear infection. Regular grooming and ear cleaning and plucking can help stop infections from starting.

Coat: Wavy/curly long haired that need regular brushing and maintenance.

Cockerpoos are generally very friendly and regarded as being good with children, generally a good family dog.






Training Tips - Cocker-poos are easy to train, and puppy training will help them grow up to be well rounded, happy and obedient dogs.


Socialise - Its important to socialise your puppy from a young age too, and to teach them to be left alone for short periods of time to avoid separation anxiety.


Keeping them happy - Cocker-poos can become restless if left alone for too long. If you're going to be away from your pet for a few hours, make sure to leave them stimulating dog toys and arrange for someone to check in with them.


Exercise - Adult cocker-poo's have lots of energy and will need at least 30 minutes of exercise twice daily. Never over exercise a puppy as you can damage their joints while they are still growing. Keep an eye out for tireless and manage your time table as they like routine, watch for excessive panting or thirst.


Games - Both Poodles and Cocker-Spaniels have a past as retrievers, so its no surprise that your cocker-too will love the classic game of fetch.


Common health problems with a Cocker-poo

Cocker-poos are prone to some health conditions see below:

Ear Problems - Ear infections, cockerpoos are prone to ear problems due to the hair that grows inside the ear and the floppyness, when your dog is being groomed you should ask the groomer to clear the ear hair as this helps stop a build up of moisture, the groomer will also look for any grass seeds, parasites or foreign bodies and keep and check on the health of the ears for you and your dog. Otitis can occur if allergies or infections start which leads to irritation and the condition called Otitis.

Gastrointestinal Disorders - Obstructions can happen if the dog eats things that obstruct the stomach examples of foreign bodies they eat can be ( , stones cloth, string, ) commonly can cause vomiting and diarrhoea. Prompt intervention usually results in a full recovery.

Skin allergies - The skin is the largest organ on the dogs body. Like other breeds the cocker-poo can suffer from skin allergies and dermatitis, lots of things in the surrounding environments can cause irritations examples , pollen, mites, parasites, ticks, fleas, wheat dust mites) allergies can be cured but the best way to keep these problems at bay is a good flea protection you can get from your vet monthly and a good bath and groom with your local groomer.

Dislocating kneecaps - A dislocating or locating kneecap is one that pops out of its grove. In some cases the dislocation happens because of the alignment of the bones from the hip through the knee to the ankle is not straight. Depending on severity if may need surgery in some cases.

Poisening - It common for cocker-pols to eat things they shouldn't like chocolate - keep well out of reach.


COCKAPOO GROOMING - Cockerpoo coats can vary, depending on their parentage.

Generally their coats are long and range from straight to curly and come in a variety of colours.

Colour examples - White, Chocolate, cream, tan or black

Brushing - Regular brushing is needed to avoid matting. Matting can become very uncomfortable for the dog as it pulls on the skin.

Grooming- Regular grooming is advised as depending on the dogs coat it will need maintenance, bathing and de-matting and eyes clearing enabling their range of sight not to be effected.

Ears - Long floppy ears means their ear canals can easily become moist and prone to ear infections. Check ears on regular basis either yourself or get your grooming every 4/6 weeks to clear the ears of hair etc. Tell tail signs are scratching, smelly ears, black or brown wax.

Teeth - Regular brushing helps reduce the build up of tar-tar and bad breath.
